Dory & the Orphans Blog

Dory is a little raccoon that came into rehab years ago. Her story is unique as are all the orphans and injured coonies that find their way to Matzo's Net. For a Business Marketing class assignment, Dory & the Orphans became a reality.Years later the website has helped citizens locate wildlife rehabbers worldwide, & helped to save hundreds of creatures. Exotic pets have also found their way, like Logan the NY Coatimundi who lost his toes to frostbite from being turned out into the snow.

Obituary

FallingBear Stuffie, born Very Large Teddy in some carnival or store many years ago, passed away Monday night while serving in his chosen vocation, rehabbing young raccoons.

Large Teddy must have been loved by children somewhere along the way, but came to his true lifes'work after retirement from human duty some three years ago when he was introduced to the care of orphan raccoons. His name was changed to Falling Bear in honor of his unflagging devotion to the small furbutts who all grew to love him. He stood sentry for the little ones, prepared to lay himself down in the path of danger for them, primarily serving to cushion falls from peeking-out ledges and ceilings of enclosures. Year after year he offered silent support to his numerous charges, preparing them for their Great Adventures. One or more from each litter took special note of FallingBear and he was literally loved to death as a surrogate mommynest, a learning toy, and buffer against a bigger world.

FallingBear is survived by the Menards babies, the Monster brothers, a special friend Kudos, his many Coondo graduates, and his long time friend and mentor, Matzo.

Visitation for Falling Bear Stuffie was held at the Coondo this afternoon with internment in the Coleman landfill memorial garden on Wednesday. Donations may be made at www.doryandtheorphans.com in lieu of flowers.

Poem from Stormspotter in Oklahoma

Matzo has a Wildlife Refuge,
This she runs for free,
Taking care of injured wildlife,
Heals them and sets them free.

She cares for them with a loving touch,
Whether bottle fed or grown,
She has a CoonCam for the Coondo.
So their activity can be shown.

We need more people like Matzo,
To give a helping hand,
Taking care of the injured and lost,
When we have taken away their land.

Thank you Matzo for all your love and care of the animals.

Baby Wizzer. The help he received caused him toxic water retention and serious bloating.

Please. If you want to help, find out what the orphan needs and don't guess or mix concoctions of evaporated milk or baby formula!

Hard to believe something this tiny can become a thirty pound juvie in a mere five months. This photo is nearly life sized of the little furbutt!
